Duterte Government will Investigate Former President Aquino fo the "killings of 44 SAF.
MANILA — Senator Richard
Gordon on Wednesday hit former President Benigno Aquino III over the Mamasapano massacre, saying the Senate justice committee which Gordon chairs is willing to reopen the case into the killings.
"Ibalik niyo na lang sa amin sa committee on justice.
Mas marami pa tayong magagawa para sa katarungan (My committee can do more for justice's sake)," Gordon said in a privilege speech
(My committee can do more for justice's sake)
The Mamasapano massacre dealt a serious blow to Aquino's legacy,
as the operation which led to the deaths of 44 elite policemen was carried out allegedly under the orders of suspended police chief Alan Purisima, who is known to be close to Aquino.
Gordon accused Aquino of "tampering (with) the chain of command" when
he "picked up a suspended policeman.”
He also noted that Aquino did not do everything he can to save the lives of the SAF troopers who had been engaged in a gun battle with Moro rebels and private armed groups.
"Tumawag ba ang pangulo ng
saklolo sa Air Force? Ginamit ba niya? (Did the president call for the Air Force's help? Did he use them?)" Gordon said.
He also criticized Aquino for supposedly prioritizing the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
expediency ba yan? Mas mahalaga ba peace process kesa sa buhay nung mga tao? (Was the peace process more important the soldiers' lives?)" Gordon said.
Senator Sonny Angara said the Senate will work on improving the police force's capabilities.
is our role to make all our men fighting the enemy are no longer blind like the SAF 44. The focus is to make the institution better, making our men better equipped," Angara said.
